OSIRIS is a movie with lots and lots and lots of gunfire and shooting… oh and some aliens… but mainly gunfire!
The film starts with a bunch of information about Voyager 1 – a probe which was sent out by NASA to explore the outer fringes of the solar system and beyond. In 2012 it left our solar system… this will be important later.
Zoom into earth – a bunch of Special Forces are under fire in a battle zone. Humongous amounts of gunfire. Pinned down by superior forces
Suddenly there is a massive cloud and red glow which shoots down the enemy soldiers. An alien craft of some sort? Then a glowing white light and flashes of lightning as the Special Forces soldiers are grabbed by the craft and taken aboard.
They awaken and extricate themselves from some kind of liquid slime. Where are they? Russians? Chinese? There is strange alien writing.
Led by Kelly (Max Martini) they go to find out where they are – the rest of the soldiers are frankly interchangeable. They hear screaming. They go to investigate in the maze of tunnels and doors… They discover eviscerated bodies hanging down.
Then they find Ravi (Brianna Hildebrand) chained up. As the men manage to get her free an alien creature attacks – before long they are under attack from several of the monsters.
Did I mention this a film marked by gunfire —massive amounts of shooting with conventional weapons and laser guns! In there somewhere is what amounts to a plot, as they wander around dark corridors and fend off more attacks. Eventually Linda Hamilton arrives on the scene, as Ravi’s mum Anya – a Russian tank commander who has been on the ship for decades!
The kind of B-movie monster outing Corman would have made back in the day – with possibly a slighter larger budget. Unlike those movies, which are usually cheesy fun, this is way too long and drawn out with repetitious action. There is little nuance on show here – it is all a bit relentless. The Giger-esque aliens look too much like men in American football uniforms with stuff stuck on them.
