Video Nasties! was published in 1998 and has long been out of print, though if you have a hundred quid to spare you might find a used copy online but we recently discovered the original print files of the very first edition (not the reprint with a different cover), and so we are reprinting more copies that are identical to the 1998 volume. Once these are gone, then that’s it.

Everyone who pre-orders a copy – we plan to print in late July – will receive their personally signed by the author.

We should also point out that anyone who buys a ticket to our August 30th Video Nasties day at the Romford Lumiere will be given the chance to buy a signed copy for just £20 at the event.
The dawn of the video age also brought the birth of the so-called Video Nasties. Suddenly a whole new world of uncensored horror opened up for UK genre fans. For all too short a time movies like The Driller Killer, The Last House on the Left, Zombie Flesh Eaters and Cannibal Holocaust were legally available in uncut form and we grabbed our viewing chances while we could. Then in 1984 came the dreaded “Bright Bill” that outlawed non-certificated videos and sent the Video Nasties underground. Horror fans in search of forbidden thrills would thereafter use the DPP’s hit list of banned titles as a shopping guide, picking up bootleg copies at car boot sales and via carefully worded adverts in horror magazines like The Dark Side, but now they’re back with a vengeance in Video Nasties!, a luridly gorgeous full colour book containing original video sleeves for every one of the 75 movies that earned themselves a feel of the collar from the local constabulary.

Every lip-smackingly exploitive sleeve is accompanied by full cast credits and running time plus concise and informative up-to-date review written by esteemed (ahem) Dark Side editor Allan Bryce, this picture packed volume really is the last word on the Nasties phenomenon and includes fascinating introductory features putting the history of video censorship in context. The print run is limited, so grab a copy while you can.
